Wow! It's been 50 years since this classic strategic boardgame was invented by French movie director Albert Lamorisse. It was introduced to the world in 1957 as La Conquête du Monde (The conquest of the world).

The name changed to Risk Continental Game when it was brought to the United States in 1959, and since 1996, it has just gone by the name Risk.

Players of the new online version will be impressed with how the Big Fish Games release has captured all the excitement and nostalgia of this classic boardgame.

Download Risk GameThe online version features outstanding graphics that reflect the Napoleonic-era political map of the world, which really brings the boardgame to life. Capitvating music and sound effects keep you engaged throughout the game.

We downloaded the game from our personal GameSpace that Big Fish Games offers all players for free. We have Windows Vista, and were ready to play within just a few minutes. The game also works with Windows ME/2000/ and XP, requires a CPU of 600 MHz or faster, and at least 128 MB of RAM.The menu features are easy to navigate and give easy-to-follow instructions.

The object of Risk is quite simple: control all 42 territories of the world. You want to begin the game by claiming territories.

A few highlights:

  • Territory cards earn you more reinforcements as you continue your quest to conquer the world.
  • You need 3 generals to play - one must be human (up to 6 players may compete}. You can also play against the computer generals, each with his own persona and style.
  • The order in which you select your generals is the order they will appear in the game.
  • Players can choose random deal or let the computer assign territories.
  • Once all territories are claimed, players can then reinforce territories with any remaining units.

Here are a few tips to help you out:

Risk Strategy Game DownloadAustralia and South America are two good continents to try and capture early.

  • South America has only two points of attack, and Australia has one. The fewer points of attack, the easier the territories are to hold.
  • Always attack with a large group of armies rather than small or medium. Don't spread yourself too thin. One-army countries are easily captured.
Lots of games have come and gone since Risk was released 50 years ago. That alone speaks volumes about this all-time favorite. With its outstanding graphics, music, and sound effects, Risk will keep players engaged for hours and maybe days developing new strategies and skills in this classic strategy game.
